Job Purpose

The Warehouse Operative is responsible for operating a Forklift Truck to move, locate, relocate, load, stack and count product.  The Warehouse Operative is also responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and general warehouse husbandry.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Take ownership of health and safety for yourself and others at work. Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed and encourage safe working practices at all times.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Drive the forklift, power pallet trucks and other machinery on all sites as directed.
  • Check the forklift each day prior to commencement of work and complete all necessary forms in line with legal requirements and report any faults or defects to the Line Manager.
  • Operate all machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Stack/de-stack/restack Lorries, trailer and or containers.
  • Re-stack pallets.
  • Sweep and clean the warehouse, yards or any other area as directed.
  • Administration duties with relevance for vehicle loading/unloading and stock control in the form or writing/recording information, computer inputting, receiving of records e.g. delivery notes.
  • Perform systematic stock checks as directed.
  • All duties to be conducted with care and diligence having due regard to health, safety, cleanliness and efficiency.
  • Unlock and lock the premises if and when necessary.
  • Such other general warehouse duties as the Company may at times reasonably require.
  • All positions require that the employee is fully flexible. This may include working in areas and on tasks outside of the Warehouse.

SKILLS

  • Numerate
  • Communication – written and verbal
  • Concentration – essential due to the potentially dangerous nature of the work
  • Discipline – the ability to follow the strict health and safety rules that are in place
  • Adaptability – to be able to use a wide range of machines.
  • Teamwork – Drivers will need to work closely with other employees as well as people working on behalf of other employers such as lorry drivers.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in a similar role and hold a full valid B1 Counterbalance FLT licence.

  • A team player but with the ability to work on own initiative
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Able to promote and maintain good working relationships with other departments
  • FLEXIBLE
