Production Technician

JOB PURPOSE

Teamwork and flexibility are fundamental requirements.  The shift teams will work closely and collaboratively to ensure maximum efficiency.  This will require each member of the team to undertake all tasks within their capability, including Press Operational duties and include raw material handling, auto-bulk take out, silo, bin filling and emptying operations, packing duties, quality checks and cleaning.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the position is primarily responsible for controlling and monitoring the operation of the plant to specified conditions, reporting on Factory KPI’s and Shift reports.

You will need to operate, control, monitor and measure plant, equipment and products in specified conditions and to strict quality standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Take ownership of health and safety for yourself and others at work. Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed and encourage safe working practices at all times.
  • Ensure all machines and equipment are kept in a clean, safe and hygienic condition and that machines are kept in good running order by reporting all faults to the Engineer.
  • Responsible for production on the shift – raw materials, end product, packing, palletisation, machine care and the condition of work areas.
  • Wash dies and check for cleanliness and damage. Select and change specified dies as required.
  • Ensure the product is being processed in accordance with the specification.
  • Check and measure product dimensions and adjust machinery where necessary. Take remedial action to meet specified standards.
  • Check the consistency, moisture and quality of the product and where required record details and necessary make adjustments.
  • Maintain and record extruder and drier conditions on the control sheet.
  • Carry out and record specified cleaning during product changeovers.
  • Operate Cussinato bin loading and unloading.
  • Operate bulk take out machinery and line take out machinery including packaging selection and use, sieve selection and changing and all associated paperwork.
  • To take effective and prompt action in the case of plant breakdowns to minimize product loss and plant and machinery damage.
  • Maintain and record plant conditions on the relevant paperwork.
  • Select raw ingredients and mixing quantities for each of the different products. Activating automatic filling/mixing cycle and the correct operation of the bulk handling system.
  • To control the receipt and in feed of snack bulk raw material deliveries making sure that you have the correct information from the Quality Assurance (QA) department before tipping.
  • Select packing materials and pallets as specified and ensuring that all products and pallets are correctly labeled.
  • To segregate substandard and non-conforming products and inform the Manufacturing Manager.
  • To carry out rework and re-bag operations as required.
  • To assist with clearing blockages, spillages, cleaning of presses and general cleaning work.
  • To transfer product samples to the laboratory at prescribed frequencies.
  • To check and record metal detector functionality at the prescribed frequencies.
  • Participate in any other activities or carry out any other duties that may be outside the general remit, which will benefit the individual, department or company as a whole.
  • Escalate issues of Safety, Quality or Breakdowns to the Operations Manager when lone working.

This is a varied role which will teach you to work in all stages of the production manufacturing process.
